Abbeville City Flag Design Initiative

3Scope

The City of Abbeville has never had a true flag.  Flags have become a popular way to identify cities across the nation.  For this reason, the Abbeville City Council is asking for designs and input from the community!

Guidelines

  • Entries are to city residents only. All ages and artistic abilities are encouraged to participate.
  • Submitted designs should be in 3x5 proportions. Acceptable file formats include jpg, png, or pdf.
  • Submissions must include the applicant’s name, contact information, and a summary of the symbolism used in the design.
  • Entries can be submitted to flagdesign@abbevillecitysc.com or through our online form(available soon).
  • Designs should not be plagiarized.
  • Each participant may submit up to three flag designs.
  • All entries will be voluntarily donating their design concepts to the City of Abbeville, and may be modified, reproduced, and published at the City's sole discretion.  No compensation will be given.

Timeline

  • The City will accept submissions now through July 28, 2023.
  • The North American Vexillological Association will evaluate all submissions and select the top designs that will be digitized.  The public will then be invited to vote for the month of August.
  • City Council will evaluate the public input, quality of design, meaningful explanation of design and elements, and design adaptability when selecting the final design  The finalist and the winner will be invited to the October 11th city council meeting for the official unveiling.
